SMS wholesale means buying text messaging capacity in bulk at a lower rate per message. For businesses and agencies sending high volumes, the useful skill is not finding the lowest number quoted online. It is working out which of those numbers you can actually buy, and what the rest of the bill looks like once you have.
How SMS Wholesale Works
Instead of paying one flat rate on every message forever, higher volume moves you onto better pricing. In practice that happens in one of a few ways:
- Buying message credits in bulk at a published volume rate
- Negotiating a custom rate once your volume justifies it
- Connecting directly to a carrier or aggregator
- Bringing your own provider and paying them for the transport
Who Benefits from SMS Wholesale?
Marketing Agencies
Agencies running SMS for several clients can pool volume across all of them, which reaches the cheaper tiers far sooner than any one client would alone.
E-commerce Brands
High-volume senders benefit from predictable, lower per-message pricing, particularly around launches and peak season when volume spikes.
Enterprise Companies
Large organizations with significant SMS needs can negotiate custom agreements against a committed annual volume.
Wholesale vs Retail Pricing
This is where most comparisons go wrong, because the cheapest rates quoted online are not rates most businesses can actually buy.
Raw carrier and aggregator rates for US traffic are genuinely low, often quoted in fractions of a cent. But that is a transport-only price: the cost of handing a message to a carrier, and nothing else. Reaching it normally means a committed annual volume, a direct contract, your own 10DLC registration, and your own software to schedule sends, store consent, handle replies, and prove compliance if you are ever challenged. No dashboard, no automation, no inbox, and no support is included in that number.
What you are really choosing between is the all-in cost of sending, and that is usually decided by the platform rather than the carrier. A provider can quote a low per-message rate and still be the expensive option, because the subscription you need before you can send anything is where the money actually goes. So compare three things together, never the per-message rate on its own:
- The rate at your volume. Not the headline rate, and not the rate at a volume you will not reach this year.
- The fee before you send. What the platform costs per month whether you send one message or a million.
- Whether credits expire. Anything you buy and do not use quietly raises your real cost per delivered message.
What Volume Saves You at Messaro
Our rates are published rather than quoted on request. Credits start at $0.015 each and fall to $0.013 at 25,000, with tiers in between. One credit sends one US or Canadian text.

Top-up creditsTop-up credits never expire, so buying at the cheaper tier costs you nothing in risk. UK and EU destinations use 3 credits per text.
Two details matter more here than the headline rate. Top-up credits never expire, so buying into a cheaper tier carries no risk of paying for messages you never get around to sending. And every paid plan already includes monthly credits, so the top-up rate is what you pay on top of an allowance rather than from zero.

How Messaro Compares
Against the platforms most businesses shortlist, the gap is less about the per-message rate and more about what you have to commit to before you reach it.

Getting Started with Wholesale SMS
You do not need a wholesale contract to get wholesale-style pricing. Start on the free plan, send at the published rate, and move into the cheaper tiers automatically as your volume grows. If you are sending well beyond the top tier, our team can talk through a custom rate.
